Newly Appointed Board Director
A professional and business-minded Divisional Board Director elect, faced
with a very macho and short termist culture, replacing an old school,
old boy approach to Business Development.
She sought to bring a new way of working to her teams and pass down accountability
and responsibility to the customer interface.
She benefited from the clarity and focus that comes from a structured,
objective approach and the toolkit to read and successfully influence
her key stakeholders.
She has now successfully established herself as a key contributor to
the board and company strategy and culture.
Here is what she said after some early meetings:-
- Not only did I really enjoy our meetings, I found them incredibly
valuable. We set some stretching objectives in our first meeting and
achieved much during the past six months.
- Improving efficiencies and lowering costs - I am in the throes
of introducing measures for the various roles within the Business Unit
which will give me much greater visibility of performances and have
also refined all the job descriptions, roles and responsibilities so
that all 'blurred' accountabilities are cleared up and the teams can
operate more efficiently and hopefully be more effective.
- Tackle customer service structure - I have been working with the
customer service team to increase empowerment and responsibility, good
progress made so far.
- Empowering the team - the work done on defining roles and responsibilities
coupled with the introduction of in role measures will help drive proactivity
of the team, increasing responsibility and leading to better performance
management.
- Network in the industry - hmmm, still very much on the 'to do pad'.
- Improve self-awareness - getting there, I am able to recognise
when I don't quite get things right now, I still have some way to go
in consistently altering my personal style preference however...
- Relationship Building - much done internally here, have now established
great working relationships with key internal contacts in the logistics
business although I have some way to go with the rest of the organisation.
- Time management and prioritisation - some days better than others
but work in progress.
