A Senior Manager made redundant

David and I commenced working together a few weeks after my previous role had been made redundant. I had already begun the process of finding a new job by reading, talking to friends and acquaintances and had compiled some useful information about myself and generally understood the job search process.

However, books do not talk back to you or answer questions specific to your circumstances. People I knew, although providing invaluable help and advice, inevitably did not have the depth of experience and understanding that are so critical to the job hunter.

David and I met on a number of occasions, to develop a coherent job search strategy and hone the skills required, as well as providing me with very helpful tips and tricks. We covered a wide range of topics, not least how to understand and match my skills and values, the process of identifying possible career options (far more than I had realised), how to turn a good CV into and excellent one, how to develop an effective network etc. David also opened a number of doors into appropriate and important networks.

I found David very intelligent, knowledgeable and possessed of great discernment, working in a structured methodology towards agreed and well-defined outcomes. David able to identify the real issues behind a problem, and to gently and confidently led me to an understanding and ownership of solutions and actions. His breadth of knowledge of the workplace added immensely to the quality of the discussions. Importantly, he inculcated the sense of confidence and assurance so needed during what is inevitably a fragile and potentially painful process.

David was consistently generous with his time and knowledge, and always easy to 'get on with'. E-mails, phone calls and incidental discussions between coaching sessions were all included in the 'bundle'. There was never any pressure to take more sessions than were necessary.

I consistently found David to act to the highest of ethical standards and work unerringly within the codes of practice expected in this industry.
